Description
Atacand is used for treatment of high blood pressure. It may be used alone or in combination with other medicines. It may also be used to treat heart failure in certain patients and for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How to Use
Atacand may be taken with or without a meal. Continue taking Atacand even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. Use Atacand as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

Warnings/Precautions
Before taking Atacand, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if you have allergies to medicines, foods or other substances, if you have liver or kidney problems, if you have low blood volume or salt (sodium) levels, if you are planning to become pregnant or are breast–feeding. Do not take Atacand after the third month of pregnancy. It may cause injury or death to the fetus. Stop taking Atacand as soon as possible if you become pregnant. It is not known if Atacand is found in breast milk. Do not breast–feed while taking Atacand. Some medicines may interact with Atacand. Therefore tell your doctor of all prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement that you are taking. Your blood pressure should be lower within two weeks. However, it may take 4 to 6 weeks for Atacand to produce its maximum effect. Life style (e.g. quitting smoking, weight loss, exercise etc.). Tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking Atacand before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care or surgery. Lab tests, including blood pressure monitoring, may be performed while you use Atacand. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments. Elderly patients may be more sensitive to Atacand. These patients may require a lower dose or/and special monitoring during treatment.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.

Possible side effects
Some of the possible side effects are – dizziness, headache, runny nose, sore throat, upper respiratory tract infection. Contact your doctor if any of these or other side effects occur. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, you should seek medical attention immediately – allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue), hest pain, decreased urination, fainting, fever, chills or persistent sore throat, irregular heartbeat, muscle pain or tenderness, severe or persistent dizziness, yellowing of the skin or eyes.

Storage
Store Atacand at 77 °F (25 °C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 – 86 °F (15 –30 °C) is permitted. Keep the container tightly closed. Store away from light, moisture and heat. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Atacand out of the reach of children.

Overdose
If overdose is suspected seek medical attention immediately. Some of the symptoms of Atacand overdose are – dizziness, fainting, fast or slow heartbeat, fatigue, weakness.

More information
Atacand may cause dizziness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Atacand with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it. Do not share this medicine with others for whom it was not prescribed. Do not use this medicine for other health conditions. If your symptoms do not improve or if they worsen, contact your doctor
